Who We Are . . . The Evangelical
Presbyterians
Mission and Vision Statements
Historically, we Presbyterians belong to a family of faith that can be
described in two ways. If you talk about how we govern ourselves, we are called
"Presbyterian" which means "rule by Elders". Our form
of government is different from the episcopal form with a hierarchy, or the
congregational form where government is by the congregation, for we have a
representative form of church government.
If you talk about what we believe, we are called "Reformed".
This means that our belief grows out of the Christian faith as it was
"reformed" during the Protestant Reformation, particularly through
John Calvin and John Knox.
In 1996, here in Plant City, several hundred
Christians and their children set out to establish a new Evangelical
Presbyterian Church. Although our name is sometimes a challenge to
pronounce, each of the three words is full of meaning to us.
We are "evangelical". We believe the Bible is God's true and
authoritative word to us and to the world. We believe sinners are saved
from God's wrath by his grace alone as it is offered in the gospel of his Son
Jesus Christ and confirmed by the work of the Holy Spirit. We believe
Jesus will return to this world for the judgment of all unsaved sinners and the
glorification of all of God's precious children who have responded to his call
to believe in Him. Our fundamental beliefs are more clearly set forth in a
document we call "The Essentials", in which we believe we must have
unity. The motto of our church also states in "nonessential"
matters we are to have liberty and in all things we are to display charity.
We are also "Presbyterian". We follow a tradition of churches
that began as part of the protestant reformation of the 16th century.
Presbyterianism has its uniqueness in our form of church government and in our
system of biblical beliefs. We are governed under the principal that the
Lord Jesus is the Head of our church. Our congregation calls pastors and
elects elders to have oversight over the spiritual and temporal concerns of our
church. We are related to about 200 other Evangelical Presbyterian
Churches across the country who share our beliefs and our ministry. We
have missionaries who we send abroad to proclaim the gospel in Muslim and South
American countries. All of our beliefs are rooted in the Bible and set
forth in a document called "The Westminster Confession of Faith" that
has defined Presbyterian churches for over 350 years.
Finally, and significantly, we are a "church". Membership in our
congregation is an explicit statement that we are Christians who have a mission
in this world. Our church has a Mission Statement that we hope all of our
members affirm in their lives.

Our Vision
is to be a Church that is
¦ Prayerfully Empowered by intentionally making the discipline of
individual and corporate prayer the foundation of every ministry and activity.
Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds
of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying
for all the saints.
¦ Worshipfully Balanced in seeking to glorify God in our services that
involve appropriate appeals to our minds, emotions and wills.
Matthew
22:37 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your mind.
¦ Biblically Mature through the preaching and teaching of Gods inspired,
infallible and inerrant word that is the basis of our reformed theology and
traditions.
II Timothy

correcting and training in righteousness

equipping of Christians with special talents to be used in their ministries in
the church.
Romans
12:4-6a Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these
members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one
body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts,
according to the grace given us.
¦ Broadly Evangelical in that we believe the gospel of salvation is
appropriate to present and persuade in all church settings and even beyond to
the community, nation and the world.
Acts
1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and
you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the
ends of the earth.
¦ Financially Strong because its members are learning and practicing
Gods financial principles in order to know Christ more intimately and to have
freedom to serve Him.
I
Chronicles 29:11-12 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the
glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is
yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over all. Wealth
and honor come from You; You are the ruler of all things. In your hands are
strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.
¦ Genuinely Relational
through the principles of small group dynamics that build love, intimacy and
accountability.
I
Thessalonians 2:8 We loved you so much that we were delighted to share
with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had
become so dear to us.
¦ Generationally Friendly in
that we are committed to being a loving fellowship of people who can play as
well as pray together regardless of chronological age or family background.
